Should be four and a half stars. But can't do halves.
Excellent compact 8x32 binocular. Wanted something smaller and lighter than my old Pentax 8x42’s, which are still excellent but do exhibit chromatic aberrations with high contrast edges. Went out with the intention of purchasing the Hawk Endurance ED . Compared the Hawkes to the new Vortex Diamondback HDs but the Hawke was significantly sharper and marginally brighter. Then unfortunately I made the mistake of trying the Opticron traveller BGA ED. They were as bright as the Hawke and just enough sharper to not want to settle for the Hawkes. There wasn't a lot in it but I just felt I was constantly hunting for maximum sharpness with the Hawkes whereas the Opticrons were just there with that extra pop, and they’re smaller. If you want to save yourself £130 get the Hawke Endurance ED 8 x 32’s which I feel are unbeatable for £179. But if you can stretch to the £300 mark you can get the best 8x32 view this side of £700+. As this is a once in a decade ( or more) purchase for me, that’s the path I took. Very bright, sharp, clear view. No discernable difference in brightness between these and my, admittedly old, Pentax 8 x 42’s but two thirds the size, half the weight and with a 30 year warranty.
