The ZWO ASI678MC comes with an exciting, comparatively large, 1/1.8″, 8.3M pixels IMX678 sensor that features SONY STARVIS 2 technology.
The result is extremely low readout noise (0.6-2.7e), high sensitivity and 12bit ADC (analogue-to-digital converter: the higher the better...).
The comparatively large sensor, extremely low read noise, high sensitivity and comparatively high frame rates make this new camera a very good choice for various astro photography and microscopy applications.
Recommended for planetary, solar and lunar imaging. (Solar imaging must be done by using the proper front solar filter or other alternative devices, such as Daystar Quark, depending on the telescope type. Ask if you are not completely sure how to observe and image the sun safely!)
Although it is a bit slower than the ASI178MC and offers only 12 bit ADC, this camera could be good alternative for very short focal length telescopes if you wanted to try deep sky one shot imaging.... The 2 micron pixel size makes it an especially good companion to astrograph camera lenses. Otherwise it is a good choice for much larger telescopes when used for planetary imaging or the moon due to the differnt needs of pixel resolution.
